Did the sugar disappear in water?
Sugar crystals vanish from sight, but the sweet substance is still in the water.
Start the experience01
What should you look for?
What happened to the crystals and particles?
- 01Stirring changed the rate, not the total mass
- 02Warmer virtual water spread sugar faster
- 03Dissolved particles were still present
02
Why does this happen?
Dissolving spreads particles
Water molecules attract and separate sugar molecules, which spread through the liquid instead of ceasing to exist.
Rate and capacity are different
Stirring and temperature can change how fast dissolving happens. The amount that can remain dissolved is a separate question.
The water mass is 100 g. Sugar solubility interpolates rounded ACS table values; particle count and stirring time are illustrative.
03
Move it before reading the answer
Change temperature, sugar amount, and stirring speed. This is a screen experiment—do not handle hot water.
